Please see the attached minutes and Agenda for the next school council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, April 16th at 6:30 PM in the Staff Room at the school.

The Parent Council has been an essential part of your child’s learning experience at Riverbend School since its inception. However, as our children move on so do the parents. We are desperately seeking parents of children in Kindergarten through grade three (Division 1) to replace the many Division 2 families leaving the school this year. Without this support the council may be at risk of losing its ability to maintain its charitable status and ultimately the ability to fundraise. As of today we only have one person who has volunteered to be a member of the executive and only 5 individuals managing all of the committees and director positions. Therefore, WE REALLY NEED YOUR HELP! I look forward to seeing you there.

There will also be discussions around the learning garden and the final approval of all the expenses discussed in March.

We have a number of key financial matters to vote on and we will be discussing volunteer positions on council for next year. As well, we will discuss covering some of the general costs for 2013-2014 with our current general funds. This would ensure continued financial support for programs, such as bussing, grade team spending, learning garden up keep, and many other expenses that occur annually, until we can fill many of the vacant council positions. There is lots of work to do but it is so much easier if we have lots of people who each do a little bit. Even if you can’t commit to taking on a full position we can still use your help, so please consider coming to the next meeting to learn more!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and I would like to welcome you back to another exciting year with the Riverbend Parent Council. Our next meeting is January 15, 2013 at 6:30 PM. Some of the key goals for this meeting is to gain a better understanding of our financial situation so we can ensure we allocate funds accordingly. As well, I hope to discuss artists in residency opportunities and outdoor school plans.

We did not have a quorum in December so we will need to approve previous minutes from November and begin planning for 2013.

Once again, I would like to offer a special thanks to Leah Turner for stepping up as Secretary and look forward to working with Leah as a key member of the executive.

Volunteers Needed

I know we’re starting to sound like a broken record, but we are still looking for a number of volunteers to fill key positions on council. If we don’t fill some of these positions soon then we will have no choice but to start canceling social activities and fundraising activities. The worst case is that we would have to cease operations entirely. Please help us to prevent that.
